Within 20 minutes drive from Stanford you will find the resort town of Hermanus with its many shops and restaurants, wine tasting, 11km cliff path walk, excellent whale watching (the Whale Festival is held in September), flea markets, art galleries, deep sea fishing and golf course as well as long white beaches.

Gansbaai is in the other direction and boasts the best great white shark encounters, boat trips, fishing trips, beaches and wonderful views of Walker Bay.

Over the mountain is Caledon where the Caledon Spa & Casino is situated, built on natural hot springs where you can spend a day soaking in the springs and partaking in the many treatments at the Spa or have a flutter on the tables.


DIRECTIONS FROM CAPE TOWN

  • Take the N2 away from Cape Town
  • Take Exit 90 – Hermanus turnoff
  • Carry on this road through Hermanus towards Gansbaai/Stanford
  • Stanford is 15 minutes from Hermanus
  • Turn right into Stanford at the Caltex garage
  • Go through the village on this road, Queen Victoria Rd, until you drive down a large dip in the road
  • Turn left after dip into Moore St
  • Carry on over stop street onto a gravel road
  • 3.7km from this junction you will find us on the right hand side (look for black roof)


DIRECTIONS FROM GARDEN ROUTE

  • 10km after Riviersonderend
  • Turn left onto R326 signed Stanford & Hermanus
  • Cross R316 from Caledon to Bredasdorp
  • The R326 ends at Stanford, Cross over into Queen Victoria St. Follow directions above from this point

  ACTIVITIES

 

Boating – Canoeing & paddling, as we are situated on the Klein River, put on your costumes and slide the canoes off on the bank and try to spot the elusive otters and terrapins

Swimming - Excellent safe swimming on our doorstep

Walking – Walk around the property and sit on the benches under the trees overlooking the river and soak up the beautiful scenery. The River Meander walkway in Stanford village follows the river from one side of Stanford to the other. Stroll around the historic town, stop at the art galleries, antique shops and junk shop.-3,4 & 7km Nature trails at Salmonsdam Nature Reserve

Birding – We are but a short paddle from a bird sanctuary at the estuary to the Klein River lagoon. Over 100 species can be spotted in the area. Stanford hosts the annual Birding Fair every September.

Cycling – Great mountain bike rides on the many gravel roads crisscrossing the countryside.

4x4 Trails – There is a new Fisherman’s Trail in the Walker Bay Nature Reserve (only accessible with a 4x4) which takes you to secluded beaches and the various fishing spots from where you can fish or just sit on the beach.

Quad Bike Trails - EcoQuad offer trails on the Robert Stanford Estate

Wine tasting – Springfontein Wine Estate, our neighbour, is a 5 minute walk away and other wine estates in the area are Raka, Brunia, Boschrivier, Sir Robert Stanford and Stanford Hills.

Beer tasting - at Birkenhead Brewery & Restaurant

Cheese tasting - Visit the Klein River Cheese factory where you can taste and buy cheese as well as picnic baskets which you can enjoy on the banks of the river

Horse riding - African Horse Co. offer horse trails for all levels.

River Cruises - From the Village take the River Rat, Platanna or African Queen on a leisurely ride down the Klein River.

Restaurants - From world class restaurants to quaint country pubs for breakfasts, lunches and dinners
